Sometimes it’s hard to find a good gift, and you may find that you can’t think of anything that even remotely sounds right. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and get something that you hope they will enjoy. When this happens to me, I try to search online, but if I come up blank I will go to the bookstore and look around until something strikes me as something that just might work. Quite often I end up buying poetry books for my girlfriends, and they always end up saying they love them.
The best thing about poetry books is that you can get something that is slanted towards someone’s interest. There are different types of poetry, and there are different styles of writing. You simply have to pick up a few poetry books and leaf through them quickly to understand what I mean. Some people may like long and winding poetry, and others may like lighter prose that is easy and simple to read. It depends on the personality of your friend and what they like to do.
You don’t even have to go into a bookstore to find the right poetry books for friends and family. There are many places online you can look, and many of these offer reviews of the book from people who have previously purchased that book. Amazon is a great place for this, and you can find used versions if you want to buy some for yourself. You can also find poetry books online that are self-published. This means that the author has published the book on their own, and it is probably not available anywhere else. You might find some really great stuff this way.
If you want poetry books for yourself, the field is wide open. You can find them online or in a bookstore, but you can also go to a thrift store and go through their selection of books, or find a used bookstore. You can borrow from friends, or you can borrow poetry books from the library. Poetry is subjective. What is good for one person may do nothing for the next. If you aren’t sure you will like something, check it out at the library. If you fall in love with it, you can then go out and buy it. If not, you just saved some money by passing on something that you just don’t like and can’t really relate to.
